Where: Blue Jay Campground, off Ortega Hwy (74) about 21 miles from San Juan Capistrano, Orange Country.


Start Time: 6:00 AM (14-hour) limit, Note,       cut off points after 22 miles


Entry: $80 before Nov.3rd (add $20 there after including race day.)  No refunds.  Includes:  race T-shirt, goodie bag, plus hot food and drink after the race.


Course: Truck roads and forest trails.  elevation gain lots!  Please refer to our website for a detailed mile-by-mile course layout, thanks given to an experienced local runner, Mr. Steve Harvey.


Weather: Always magic for running, but come prepared for all seasons.


Aid Stations: Every 5 to 7 miles, except the first 9.  You'll be fine, don't wimp.


Awards: Overall winners and age groups, special attention will be given to those over 50 years of age.  Awards will be given as soon as enough info is available.  Stick around; it's all good clean fun.


More Info: The Old Goats 50 miler will be run in conjunction with the Saddleback Marathon, which will start at 8:00 AM from Blue Jay and will use 26.2 miles of the same course.  Parking at Blue Jay is limited; all vehicles must be left in designated areas and must show a day-use pass obtained from the Forest Service (only$5)-even if you get a ticket!  Lots more info will be available on line and by contacting Baz, the race director at bazhawley@sti.net or by calling 949-830-5008 in the evenings.

Race Information:

Blue Jay Campground is the start and finish, located in the Cleveland National Forest. Please study the course map and the road directions from Hwy 74 (Ortega Hwy). There is road construction on Hwy 74 about 17 miles east of San Juan Capistrano, please allow 15 minute for delay.  Limited parking at Lower Blue Jay, please follow signs and do not double-park on black top.  Parking requires a $5 day pass issued by the Forest Service, a ticket will only cost $5 anyway.   Overnight camping is available at Blue Jay Campground, a fee is required, register at entrance.

The 50 miler is being run in conjunction with the Saddleback Marathon, which starts at 8:00 AM, after the first 9 mile loop be aware there will be vehicles on the black top when arriving at the first aid station.

A trail briefing will start at 5:55AM at the starting line; come early, the race starts at 6 AM.
The course will be marked with yellow ribbon and white arrows at major intersections.  Please be aware of marathon course directions especially at Bear Springs aid station.
10 aid stations will cater for most of your needs, please carry water at all times.  Marathon runners will use some of the stations, waste nothing!
Orange County weather in November is usually magic, but come prepared for all seasons.
Bring a flash light in your drop back for Bear Springs.  Sunrise is not before 6 AM and sunset is before 5:30 PM, be prepared.  Your drop bag will be delivered from the start line to Bear Springs after 8:30 AM.
Cut-off time at Bear Springs will be enforced, about 22 miles into race, 6 hours.  Those missing the cut-off will be allowed to continue back to finish and will get a good 33 mile run.
Sorry NO PACERS and no unauthorized vehicles on Main Divide Road.  Please leave your dogs at home, Forest Service request.
Runners requiring help must tell fellow runners or stop at the next Aid Station.
Our medical people and our ham radio team will monitor all runners, we want you to finish.
Respect the forest trails, pack out what you pack in.
Hot food and drinks will be available at the finish line for all runners.  Please remember to leave some for the 14 hour runners!
